I dont understand when people are going about worrying about ?we need to have English only. They want to pass a law, We want English only?. Now I agree that immigrants should learn English. I agree with that. Now I agree that immigrants should learn English. I agree with that but. But understand this! Instead of worrying about whether immigrants can learn English, they?ll learn English, you need to make sure your child can speak Spanish! You should be thinking about how your child can become bilingual. We should have every child speaking more than one language. Y?all it?s embarrassing when Europeans come over here they all speak English, they speak French, they speak German, and then we go over to Europe and all we can say is Merci Beaucoup. Right?

El precandidato estaba respondiendo una pregunta sobre educación cuando dijo que no entendía a la gente que dice "que sólo necesitamos el inglés".

"Yo coincidiría en que los inmigrantes deben aprender inglés", dijo Obama. "Pero en vez de preocuparnos de si los inmigrantes pueden aprender inglés --y lo aprenderán-- necesitamos cerciorarnos de que nuestros niños puedan hablar español. Deberíamos pensar cómo pueden nuestros niños ser bilingües. Deberíamos hacer que cada niño hablara más de un idioma".

Obama argumentó que el país debería enfatizar el estudio de lenguas extranjeras en las aulas.

"¿Saben? Es vergonzoso cuando vienen los europeos acá. Todos hablan inglés, francés y alemán. Y luego nosotros vamos a Europa y todo lo que podemos decir es 'merci beaucoup!
